ported 5.3s are the best bang for the buck i believe, but it all depends on your goal. are you trying to keep plenty low end torque, or more top end power? i know we all enjoy bottom end torque, but if the situation does arise and you stomp it, it IS going to downshift and get the rpms up

agree, find a set of 243's.
The lil 243's, which will need to be milled to keep your compression where it is now.

Or go big and get some L92's (aka LS3) with the truck intake to match it..
Car intake will drop some low rpm in favor of more mid and high rpm power.
There is some BIG power to be made with the L92 heads. Ppl are easily reaching the 500+ mark with the L92's and a matching cam.
Considering your doing a converter as well, You will have ALOT of fun with the L92 setup

Even tho you will lose some low rpm power, just remember your Still making ALOT more in the low end than you did on stock setup.

You can get a cnc ported set of 243's in the 700-1200$ range.
Stock L92's for around 400-650 and the intake around 250 complete with rails injectors everything you will need for the conversion.
These are daily prices on the below truck sites..

Post a WTB on LS1truck and performancetrucks. someone will have what your looking for.

i posted a link or your thread about the 6.0. they made 480hp with the stock(iron i believe too!) 317 heads, then swapped to the L92 head and it made 551hp. but if you look at the comparison, under 5k rpms the 317s made more power and torque but died off at 5k. with the L92s, they stayed below the 317s, but when the 317s died off the L92 were really starting to shine. they ran the L92s up to 6500, and that 1500 rpm increase yielded an additional 71 hp

If I had the chance to do 243's or L92's? on a Circle D 2800-3200 AND being able to get a cam cut for that combo..
for me its a no brainer, the L92's hands down.

But if your trying to fly under the wife and $$ radar, just grab a set 243's.

Just understand with that converter, you WANT as much power as you can get when that converter hits. With the L92's you will have a MOUNTAIN of torque at that RPM.

doug, any idea if the L92/ls3 intake is tall enough to clear the fan shroud if one may still have a belt driven fan? im sure with e fans ud be fine, but i think the point of the truck intake is to be taller and clear fan shroud

As for fan clearance, I have no idea.
I do know that the L92 topend is the GOTO setup for a "cheap", but major upgrade.
Also based on your build post, your going FI, theres NO WAY I would cheese it and run some 243's!

The L92 topend + Boost is heaven!
