I know nothing about engine building, but would like to get some information on building the top end of a 5.3...
It will be a daily driver, and I'm looking for as much hp and low end torque as possible without having to do any major surgery. Thinking a mild cam. Already have cai, full exhaust. Any reading material or sites to search on would be helpful.
Also plan on going FI in another year or so.

Ls1truck.com 5 times a day someone asks how to mod a 5.3

243 heads and z06 cam.
Heads are dirt cbeap and cam will make aprox 30hp over what you have now and its very boost friendly.
You will need proper valve springs and pushrods to go with it.

Go dig on ls1truck all your answers ar there x10

Heads and a cam require complete top end dis assembly. If you want power look into a Magnacharger or get a turbo kit custom built.

i agree that boost is GREAT! but dont ever overlook a solid hci package. for instance, 100% stock lq4, with a magnacharger on it at 5 psi makes around 550 flywheel. you can also do that with a set of $700 heads, $300 cam, and $300 intake. i know they can make more than 5.5 psi, so it can theoretically make more power. but power per dollar, that blower or CUSTOM turbo kit isnt the best deal.

IMO, go heads cam intake and once that gets to feeling... "normal", put some boost on it if you can afford it

The only thing I'd add to this is the rocker bolts. I've been doing some research and the most credible and long term techs at my local dealership recommended this to me.

I recommend researching the article Hot Rod Magazine did on turbocharging our motors back in last April. Good results there.

I'd say texas speeds 5.3 heads, TR224 cam, Fast LSXRT intake, some fatter injectors, thinner head gaskets, and maybe hollow stemmed valves if you got the incentive.
