Hi all,

First time on the site and was hoping to get some input on a minor problem I am having with my 2000 Tahoe.

For about a year I have had a really annoying rattle coming from basically under the driver's seat at low RPMs, usually when I am stopped somewhere or driving really slow. From a little research it is from a heat shield for the catalytic converter rusting through. I used hose clamps to try to tighten it up and put JB Weld where it was rattling, but it is still doing it. Attached is a picture of what I'm talking about.

I called a mechanic and they said that they can't just replace the heat shield, that the whole catalytic converter would have to be replaced. He said that he would recommend just removing it.

My question is, would this be a good idea? I'm usually under the impression that if the manufacturer put a part on a vehicle, it serves a purpose. But, if this isn't really going to effect the vehicle much I just may have them remove it. Can someone give me some input on this?

Thanks a bunch!

Take the shield off and don't overthink it. It don't do much. And it looks like that cat has been replaced once already
