Hello all,

I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, finally found something that I haven't been able to figure out from a previous post. Thanks in advance for your help here.

I've got a 2004 Tahoe 5.3l AWD, been having issues with the heater/ac for the last while (turn to 90 and still blows full cold/turn to 60 and it still blows full heat, it's sporadic). Usually, turning off the engine and back on would correct the problem. However, I was recently on a few hour drive and noticed that the temp gauge was jumping up, didn't overheat but did give me the "engine coolant hot" notification. I noticed the coolant was low so topped it off and didn't have any more issues for the rest of the week.

Fast forward to a couple days ago, same symptoms, running hot and notification, added more coolant and checked around under the hood to find a steady leak coming out of the bottom of the water pump. I replaced the water pump/gaskets, leak fixed. Test drive and not within 5 minutes of driving got the engine coolant hot notification again (this time, had a full reservoir of fluid) and it actually overheated before I could make it home. I figure this must be due to a bad thermostat so replaced that also, another test drive and the exact same issues. Heater does not work at all now, just cold (AC seems to work).

Could this be due to a clogged radiator? Perhaps the pressure from a clog caused the original water pump gasket to blow, though I don't know what magnified the issue.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, if you have any follow up questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks again.

In my past experiences with front wheel drive Dodge cars, those symptoms usually point to a head gasket or a head itself. Combustion pressure could be entering the cooling system and making it dump coolant on the ground. Does the engine ever stumble or run rough?

you are not getting any smells or seeing any drips?

sounds like u could be vapour locked.

in which case where did the coolant go to?
