Coil mostikely if your spark is orange.

i actually beleive the distributor is bad now or cap and rotor. I took off the zip tie the was over the cap and 1 side is loose. It seems the screw is striped that hold the cap to dist. on the engine side. The screw against firewall the head is stripped and cant get it to turn. Thursday was foggy/ misty out here and it was the first time its just sat in moisture like that so i think it got up in the distributor.

Now the question is with the screw hole stripped on the distributor will i be able to retap the hole or would it be best to just buy a whole new distributor?

now that i have found out this zip tie fiasco i am fairly certain thats my problem tho it could still be coil but the lose cap would also explain the dull orange spark too.

You need to get the cap off and inspect the cap and rotor. The stripped hole is common. I've seen zip ties used before (while not a great or factory approved method) and they will work. Depends on what your budget and time issues are. If you don't have the time or money, zip tie it back on. I'm sure I will get scrutiny but sometimes if that is what you must do, then do it.

Otherwise, make sure the cap and rotor are good. Moisture in them along with corrosion will keep that ignition system from starting and cause an orange spark if resistance is great enough. I know first-hand. This check is free and should be done before spending money on anything else. If they look good, as mentioned earlier, the ignition coil is the next logical item.

Let us know how the cap and rotor look.

ok, so i changed the coil today still no start. I am getting better spark tho when it fires. I have a friend that works at the local ford garage and he says it the cap/rotor that it got some moisture in it and corroded the electrodes so its throwing spark all over. I re zip tied the cap down as in i can not get the rear screw out cause the head is stripped.

what solutions do i have to get the rear screw out for the cap? I cant see it and the biggest phillips screwdriver i have is a number 2 which just spins in the head of the screw. More help would be appreciated as in the tahoe is still dead.
