So about a month I woke up for work went to start my truck. It cranked over wanted to start but kinda lost umnf. Starter/flex plate made a weird sound. I recrancked engine she fired up. Since then starter while cranking engine sounded different almost like a starter wasn't aligned properly or missing shims. I didn't think anything of it except starter is going out soon. So to make a long story short truck left me stranded, got it to garage one starter bolt broke the other backed it's way out. Starter was just hanging by wires. Bought new starter & shims bolted it all together still had a different tune when she cranked. A week later same thing. Inspected flex plate with out dropping tranny teeth look a Lil beat up but I have seen worse. Could I have a broken flex plate ? If so what would cause it ....original 88k miles on truck. Any help would be appreciated & thanks in advance.

Did you rotate the engine to check all the teeth or just the ones right there? The only thing I can think of is the starter is binding real bad in one spot that's causing excessive pressure breaking the bolts. With a new starter and the proper shim and no other symptoms I can only geuss there is a flywheel issue.

have you scanned for any hidden codes regarding the crank sensor? on some years a defective sensor can cause a kick back and break boss mounts among other things. by all means tho inspect every tooth for condition and straightness of the plate gear.
