Well after learning lots from you guys and this forum, I finally have a problem that I need specific help with. So thanks in advance for any suggestions, experience, et cetera you might be able to offer ...

Two Questions;

1) Recently, after towing a ski boat up to a local lake (slight rolling hills and curves, however nothing extreme), upon arriving at the lake, I smell a strong odor like felt tipped pens. This is on a 2001 Tahoe 5.3L 4x4 with 164k miles, but is being driven extremely gently in 2wd. Also, the only time I smell this has been after this 15-20 mile drive up to the lake. Normal daily driving both town and highway are completely normal. Any ideas/suggestions/guesses as to what may be going on? The brakes on both the truck and trailer don't smell or feel hot at all, and I'm not noticing any transmission issues, but the smell is overpowering and scary.

2) For those of you who live in the Greater Sacramento area ... Do you have any suggestions or personal recommendations for a transmission shop that you have had a positive experience with. I'm up in Lincoln/Rocklin/Roseville, but am willing to drive a bit for a "known" shop of good repute.

Thanks again guys & gals ...

Sounds like an area smell, try changing your recirc air to cabin from outside air.

Is there a sharpie factory nearby :^)

Yup..I was thinking about the same thing. It could just be some local stench.

I live in NY by Laguardia Airport and when it's low tide the whole place smell like fart. :whymewhyme: In your case, maybe that lake or around that area is some local dump site for chemical factories.
