Hi folks, Its been a while since i have been on here.

Here's the deal. I have a 2000 chevy tahoe 4x4. I have loved the truck, its got around 135k miles and still runs great. I live in an area that has snow for about 4-5 months out of the year , so 4x4 has been great.

I recently had my first child, a son. And I stangely have the urge to want a newer crossover suv, for safety and gas mileage , etc. Rav 4 or somthing similar. The issue is that i am upside down on my auto loan and realistically should pay this car off in the next couple years before i think of a new suv. But I just need someone to talk some sence into me. ..... Someone say, "you don't need some small suv, your tahoe is a good safe vehicle as long as you take care of it".... and some other stuff. lol.

Help... I want to get these ideas of "Needing" a new car out of my head.

Thanks in advance! :)

Hey! ... Very good start Da Rosa!

That does help a little. :)

.............
One thing I do know; is my Tahoe seems to be made out of much stronger and heavier materials than many of these newer "crossover" SUVs.

Driver and Passenger also survived this crash.

I have worked EMS for the past 6 years in a area that has 4 Major freeways and have experienced many vehicle accidents both minor and major. Tahoe in my opinion are a safe vehicle for families. Our local Fire Dept.'s use them for their Battalion Chief as well as a Local Federal Police Agency ONLY use Tahoe's.

In the end NO and I say again, NO vehicle will guarantee save you from an accident. Some may assist in providing a little better ods, thats all.

If it's good gas mileage you're looking for, the tahoe isn't gonna help you but other than that I think these GMs are very safe. They're big so if you get hit hit, most likely the other car is going to show more damage. Tahoes aren't the best as far as safety ratings but they are tanks. If you take care of these rigs they'll last a long time. So, slap some sense into yourself and at least pay the thing off then think about moving on. BTW, nice tahoe.

saving money on gas is a fallacy. if you take the money you have to pay for the new car, including registration and match that against what you spend in gas, you'll find that its not that different. i did the math on buying a small DD and the amount of money spent over a year, including purchase price, reg, insurance and it came out cheaper to keep my suburban.

besides its another car payment for a few more years!

Very true, and very good points Chauncey and waxworks.

I have thought of that also, as far as gas is a little more per year, but it doesn't take much to have paid that much in other costs to counter act them. The depreciation on my vehicle, as far as trade in or resale value has taken such a hit in the past few years that it just wouldn't be cost effective to take the hit with trading in or selling. ....... I truly beleive my truck has a lot of life left in it. and i used to think that I would keep this truck as an extra vehicle even after I pay it off, and potentially purchase a newer car. I am just trying to get my mind set back there.

I am sure you guys know how it is to get the fever... lol. I am just trying to get over it and through. When I was younger I was very bad about having to switch cars every 2 years. I have had this Tahoe for about 3 years and that itch comes up every so often.

Thanks again for the comments!

I racked my brain for a moment on "BB tune", but couldn't quite figure out the BB part. I am guessing it is some sort of tune up . lol
