Last month, my engine started overheating and the truck was shaking heavily. Had an engine rebuilt done, truck still shaked heavily. Shop replaced the U joint, transmission mount and balanced the drive shaft. Shaking went away. But the truck feels very floaty on the freeway. The steering seems very loose like it has too much play in it. What do I need to have checked? I miss the way my truck was running before!

By the way, the mechanic checked the ball joints and said they were good. Any advise? Will an alignment fix my issue? Is an alignment even necessary after the work I've had done?

Check the sway bar bushings, sway bar link bushings, control arm bushings, steering box play, tierods, idler arm, tire pressure, leaf spring bushings

I have to agree about the steering box to pitman arm play, making sure the pitman arm isn't loose itself or that the steering box doesn't either need adjusting or replacing. If the play in the steering is associated with the fact that you can turn the wheel without anything really happening. The gear box can be adjusted with an adjustment "Screw" on the top of the box to tighten things up if it isn't worn out.

Well, it turns out my mechanic relied on the alignment guy when he told me everything is cool before. Today he jacked it up, shook the wheels, and it looks like I need several parts...

Thank you all for you help!
