So this came up in another thread so I thought I'd start a new one. The one thing I'm really not impressed with on my 2015 Yukon SLT is the halogen headlights. I'm wanting to upgrade to the HID's but don't wanna shell out the $ to buy the Denali lights from GM. When I had a Pontiac G8 I dropped in a DDM tuning HID kit in the stock projector housings and it looked really good. Can that be done on these trucks or is a new housing assembly required? I know on other brands that offer HID and halogen lights on the same model the projector housings are actually the same and I'm wondering if that's the case here.

Hmmm. Guess I'll take the plunge and order one of the kits off of theretrofitsource.com and see how it looks.

HID lights

Ok, so I have the DDM sets in my off road toys, Polaris Ranger 800xp and Yamaha Viking. day and night difference. I realize not the same as a DOT setup.

I ordered a set for the 2015 yukon from the retrofit source. Used standard USPS shipping, should be here next week.

but....I have a silly question. So, this is the low beam projector swap out. The high beam is on the bottom, but it is a standard halogen bulb. So the kit is just the low beam. What is the solution for the high beam? Will the low HID beam be enough that I won't use the halogen high beam?

Thanks,
Steve

Low beam bulbs are H11 LL

high beams are 9005 LL

Are you talking about an NNBS truck?

The OP is asking about a 2015.

Yes, I indicated that I have a 2015 Yukon.....ordered the HID light kit for it (low beam only) Two separate bulbs in each housing. Low beam is projector, high beam is bulb.

Sorry, I didn't realize the non Denali had a separate high beam reflector, I thought it had a bi-halogen projector.

To answer your question, many vehicles have this setup, and many people who do retrofits do a HID low beam and leave the high beam halogen reflector alone. This setup has the added benefit that it retains the 'flash to pass' feature during the day.

So, Morimoto has a 9005 HID kit as well. Would this just be a drop in bulb into the existing High beam housing? I guess I need to ask them tomorrow.

Anyone have any ideas?

Would this not have a good pattern/beam?

I think it would drive me nuts to have HID low beams and standard high beams.

I drive about three hours at night every Friday. I really need the extra light intensity. I was spoiled by my 2011 Jeep grand cherokee. It had true HID lights. I could see for a long way on highway. (rural highway with little traffic)

Even the denali high beam isn't a hid just the low beam
