Pulling the bumper cover and bumper bar for a cam swap can make work easier and only takes 15 mins or so. I'm shorter (5'6") so it allowed me place a step stool closer or raise the front end so everything was right in front of me.
I picked up a cam and DOD delete kit from TSP which included everything I needed. Vinci Hi-Performance was very communicative via email, but I couldn't get everything I needed so I went with TSP. Granted I'm not adding a power adder so my application was pretty simple. The 5.3 in my tahoe had 154k when I started work a few months ago.
Oil pump and chain should be done while everything is open.
