I was up in the cold north last week and noticed my alternator voltage was way up. about 15 on the dash. O'Reilly tested it at 14.8 and said the tester gave me a pass on the alternator, battery, and regulator. It still worries me. There were a few time where it came back down to "normal" (12-14) but its been high for a week now. Nothing I did (lights, seat heaters,,,,) seemed to change it. Worry? Or No?

Your truck's computer controls the output of the alternator. Look up RVC (Regulated Voltage Control) and EPM (Electrical Power Management).

Let it do its thing. If it really bothers you, it can be disconnected and then the alternator will default to a steady 13.6 volts. Plug is on the negative cable, right off the battery.

Thanks for the help. I'll look for the plug but probably leave it alone.
