What is the reason behind getting an 89 or 91 octane tune as opposed to staying with standard 87 octane?

Do you think the improved MPG out ways the cost of higher octane gas?

We run nothing less than 91 on our personal vehicles, so I am probably not the one to ask. But we only run good quality, and see good MPGs.
