So I was about to set up home link and had a question. If your car is parked in your driveway could someone smash a window and open the garage door? Does homelink always stay active even if the key is not in the vehicle or the vehicle is locked?

We have a 2004 Tahoe.

Yes, that's why convertible, open top vehicles might not want Homelink

Yeah. Pretty stupid that there is not off when key not in ignition. Would hate to have broken window because someone thinks I have mine programed...

I added one to my 06 Sierra and I just added the hot orange wire to switched ignition, this way it only works with key on.

I thought about that years ago and installed a setup to my garage door that shuts power off to it at night or when I'm away from home! Works awesome and love the peace of mind knowing someone can't just click my door open!
