We finally got our Chevy Tahoe LT – 5.3lt 2006 model with low mileage. We need to tow our trailer (Trail-lite crossover 189QB – 3500lb loaded).
This is my first full size SUV - I love to ride this thing. Our first trip in the Georgia mountains was very exciting, my Tahoe did great.
I need to install a temp gauge for my tranny. Probably right under the dashboard.
I need the + wire from the ignition and the power line for the lights (for dimming the gauge).
Is there a convenient place like a plug or wires under the dashboard?

Thank you for your time and support – have a nice day – walter and dianne.

Honestly it would be easier to just swap the gauge cluster out for a 2500hd/esky/SS one that has the temp gauge in it already..

Where are you mounting your temp sensor??

tranny temperature sender installed and prewired ?

The cluster would cost anywhere between 250 and 350 dollars. Really, all my gauges are working fine.
Is it possible to buy a aftermarket gauge and install it on the cluster? Is the tranny temperature sender installed and prewired on my 2006 model regardless if whether or not the vehicle originally came with the tranny temp gauge or not?

if you did the cluster swap like andrew suggested the sensor is installed and works perfectly. i did the swap with my 01 suburban to an esky ckuster, looks better and works great.

Is the tranny temp gauge pre-wired so the new cluster is plug and play?

I have seen a few guys disassemble the cluster and install one..

Yes there all prewired for the trans guage...Do some looking around on ebay and you can find a used cluster for $100-$150...

Another option you have is installing an aeroforce scan gauge...TTS power systems has a nice mount that goes in the dash..

Yes 100%...

Yep. 06s didn't get the recall so I dunno if they have the upgraded instrument motors or not.
If they didn't, you might as well swap all of them out, add the 7th motor for the trans temp ($30), and buy the 2500 applique/overlay ($80) + 1 extra needle and bulb (?$5?) and swap those parts in place of the "plain" tahoe ones.

That'll essentially give you a long lasting 2500HD cluster without needing reprogramming or mileage issues for about $130-$150.

Since yours is an 06 be aware you can only use 03-06 clusters, easiest way to tell the difference between early and late clusters in all variants (denali 2500 esky or regular) is whether the fuel gauge is in the same position as yours.

I stripped my cluster down, replaced the motors and added the 7th in about an hour... my first time.

All thanks to a great write up fellow member OmarR did on Z71 tahoe suburban.

Cheers and good luck no matter what you choose to do.
