it depends on if you want off road tires or street tires and if you want to change your offset or not.

Like raptor said the wheel offset is a huge factor. When I swapped to a wheel with 4.5" BS and 1" wider I was limited to a 265/70I think tire so it did not rub. But on teh stock wheel I could run a 33x12.5 with minimal rub only on big dips.

I'm looking to get tires too, how can I check my offset? I want as big as I can go w/o rubbing. I know these rims I got on my yukon now stick out a lil bit farther than the stockers.

try this site, it may help you a bit:

Hey, thanks for that link!
I too, would like to go winter tire rims shopping, and would like a rim that has the same specs as stock, but I didn't know what stock was!

I checked the link out and determined the specs of stock rims that look like this;
3305g4d_20.jpeg

Stock rims specs as measured by me on mine are;
BOLT PATTERN: 6-LUG 5.5"
BACKSPACING: 5.5"
OFFSET: +1.5"
RIM WIDTH: 8"
WHEEL CENTERLINE: 4"

So now I can go to the tirerack and shop for some rims that are close to stock specs!

Thanks again for that link!

That 8" rim width is not accurate when measuring bead seat to seat...all others that I've seen are 7" wide when measuring bead seat to bead seat. 8" is from edge to edge (or flange to flange using the terms in the link diagram).

Opps, you could be right. That's not my tire, it's some photo that I googled. My rim is very close to that pic, but the center cap is solid and doesn't have the lugs showing. I thought they were the same, not knowing there was a difference. Sorry. See I learn new things every day. :)

I measured my current winter 99 stock rims from inner to outer beads to be 8" wide. The edge to edge is closer to 9"+.

Not doubting you in the least... most factory aluminum rims (15" & 16" diameter) for the OBS were 7" wide. There were some that were narrower (6.5"), but I think they were the 16.5" diameter wheels or for OOBS. Steelies were known for varying in widths up to 8" from the factory.
