I have a 97 2-door tahoe, and I need to know how to remove my airbag so I can get down in my steering column.

Be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable first

On my 96 there were leaf spring style clips at each corner. Best way was to turn the wheel 90* pop the two out at the top of the column with a flathead.. then spin it back 180* and get the other two.

On my 00 (99 essentially) it had coil spring type clips.. same method though. Check out youtube for more in-depth detail.

Pull battery, wait an hour. Can do 30 min but better safe then a bag to the face. Then get the screws out and pop out and disconnect

Im not sure on the specifics but I know there is a certain order to disconnect everything that a shop manual can tell you. I think it goes something like disconnect the battery, pull the fuse and disconnect the yellow plugs under the column. You should double check the real procedure just in case though, not worth busting an air bag with a guess. Check a shop manual to be safe.

yup. thats how i did mine.

FIRST THINGS FIRST! UNHOOK YOUR BATTERY.. then wait 15-30 minutes

old pics from a billet wheel i did to give you a visual

turn 90 degrees

looking from the backside you can access the screws. then i think i took 2 flatheads and slid them into those slots on the sides of the screw which pshes and releases the bag then you can kind of pull / pry it with your fingertips

unclip the yellow plug

remove nut.

borrow a steering wheel puller from your local auto part store.
some wheels i can remove without it. i just give it one good yank at 12 o clock, and another strong yank at 6 and they can sometimes come right off

at this point i swapped out my wheel and reversed the process

Unclip the plug before you tug on it. Remember Unclip the plug first.
