The ONLY acceptable way to do one and not the other is to remove the front drive-shaft and effectively not have 4WD.

Because you KNOW one day you will eventually (most likely by accident) knock it into 4WD. And when that happens with separate ratios, you're up shit creek.

Yes indeed. Would be quite the sh*t storm, especially if you are moving at a good pace.

I would have someone do it. My dad and I can do gears. Takes us along time to do it because we check everything 10 times to make sure its right. (10 times because if its wrong bad things could happen) We've done the 4.56's in my dads drag car. My mom's escalade needed new bearings in the front and the rear so we did it twice on that. Its definetly not a fun thing to do by any means. I would have a professional do it even with the experience i have doing it. Trust me you dont want to mess up. Drag racing buddy did his own in a mint condition camaro with a built 383 twin turbo set and he ended shooting his gears through the back end of the car destroying the back bumper, trunk lid and leaving a whole the size of a basketball in the back. IM being dead serious. he now wishes he had a professional do it. Find a 4wheelparts.com store around you and get them to do it. They are awesome thats where my truck will be getting its lift tires wheels and gears when i do it. sorry for the long post...
