Alright, I have a 98 Yukon 4wd...

took it to autozone to have the computer scanned because of the CEL that I had... thought it was O2 sensors... the guy hooked up the scanner and it turns out it was a #6 cylinder misfire... cool, no biggie.

then the guy told me the o2 sensors were fine along with all of the other sensors on the truck... of course I curisously asked, how many are there... and the guy told me there was over a hundred... is this true?

does anyone KNOW how many there are (without just googling it or looking it up on a parts site - 'cause I tried that and only found 30-something)

New cars (like ChrisAU's new Tahoe) will for sure have over 100 sensors for sure. There are sensors on that to tell you if a headlight is out or the window switch is bad. Our old things have 30-40 tops, 90% of which are for the engine and drivetrain. No way you have over 100 though.

Our trucks have sensors for air, fuel, exhaust, pressures, temperatures, liquids, and speeds. everything else, were kinda SOL for buddy. As usual, auto zone's employees chiming in with their enormous knowledge. Oh wait....

okay... thought that was erroneous...

as far as going to AZ for cel... they check codes for free... so does any other auto parts store, but what's the difference between Joe Blow at AZ vs. Joe Scmoe at O'Reiley's - nothing... I just look at the scanner when they hook it up to verify what they're telling me is what's on the screen. He scrolled through it so I didn't get a personal count on how many sensors there were... but I did see a lot.

thanks for the input

I just don't take Autozone, O'Rileys or any others very serious to be honest. Maybe it's just in my area, but they all lack any actual automotive knowledge.

But back to the topic. On the OBS trucks, there are very few sensor's. Everything is very simple IMO. You got your drivetrain sensors and SOME BCM sensors. But it's nothing compared to a NBS or a NNBS truck for the BCM.

yeah, I don't go there for the automotive knowledge... I go there because I don't have a scanner and they don't charge anything to hook it up and scan it for you... once they tell me what the code is, I know how to fix it from there - if I don't, I ask someone else that I know will know

if you don't mind me asking, when your truck pops a cel, what do you do?

I have a $60 dollar Matco Tools scan tool I picked up for home use when doing side work. I'm a Service Tech at a GM Dealer, so I have a GM Tech 2 sitting near my box all day which I use more often than my Matco one

Which is funny though. My 2 door never threw a CEL nor has my Silvy. Watch, tomorrow I'll have a CEL on lol

This is the one I have. Might sell it and buy one that can do ABS codes for home use also. Mine only does CEL
