How many speakers do I have? Any suggestions regarding no sound from rears with stock non Bose HU and no amp.

I just bought a 2009 Tahoe LT with a non-Bose stock head unit and no amp I think. I was wondering how many stock speakers came in the truck? I assume driver and passenger doors, but are there any in the D pillars on the base stereo any in the front pillars? The reason I ask is that I only have sound from the front speakers. When I put the fader to rear, it is silence. My rear audio controls seem to work. They turn on and off and the headphone jacks play music. I pulled the head unit to make sure the plugs were firmly in and that couplers were connected. The previous owner is a friend and said that they had not heard any speakers going out and didn't even realize that the rears were out.

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

Pics of the truck, please.

I can't tell you for sure with your specific truck, but the 'typical' places for speakers on these trucks are the 4 doors, front pillars (should be obvious, if you have them), and the rear pillars on either side of the rear hatch (not every model has these, but it should be obvious if you have them).

You’re in kind of uncharted territory here. Usually owners are working to save the speakers and Bose amp after a non factory head unit is installed.

The Bose system has ten speakers. Four on each side, one in the center dash and the bass under the center console.

The factory non bose system does have speakers in the rear doors and possibly in grills adjacent to the posts next to the lift gate.

I was able to pull a rear pillar grille today and no speaker was there. I pulled a door panel and tested the wire with a multimeter when the fader was set to rear and it showed that it was receiving signal. So I ordered new speakers for the rear doors. Glad that’s all it was! Thanks for your replies!

An LT would have come with 9 speakers. 2 tweeters on the A-pillars, one in each door, 2 in the D-pillars and the sub woofer under the console. This is where the factory amp resides too.

The Bose Centerpoint system added a speaker in the middle of the dash with an improved amp that diagnostic tools could talk to. LTZs and Denalis and Escalades got that system.

Really? All that I had was an empty spot behind the D-pillar speaker grille. The previous owner is a friend and he said he hasn't done anything to the sound system, except unplug the CD player inside the head unit when it started clicking constantly.

Looks like it is the US8 head unit (snapshot below) with UQ3 sound system (according to my codes sticker). From what I have read this morning, it looks like it is a 6? speaker system with no amp.
