What kind of mount was that to the gps? Is the cradle there all the time or is it magnetic or something?
Thanks

^ thats what i wanted to do but the TomTom was too wide. My wife has a Garmin that would fit so I was gonna trade her but I quickly realized there was no way to turn it on and off. i could have set it up to charge and power on with the ignition but how do you turn it off when getting out of the car? it has an internal battery. didnt want someone breaking in my car for it.

You have to check these out: http://www.proclipusa.com/

I installed one in my wife's Passat CC and bought one for my BB Bold Charger (www.smoothtalker.com).

I'll post the pics when I install it this week..

To get mine to turn on and off I installed a 12v cigarette lighter under the dash with a hidden switch to turn it on and off.

but how does that switch kill power instantly? doesnt it have an internal battery that charges as its on? if so killing the switch would stop power from going to it but the gps would still be running off its internal charge. this is the problem i ran in to.

It depends on your GPS, my Garmin will start to turn off as soon as it senses loss of 12V power...
