How to remove the trim around the dash

2006 Tahoe Z71: My tan outer dash trim has an area at the top right behind the top of the steering wheel where the tan is worn off, and it's showing the black base color of the plastic. I've had several Suburbans in the past with the same dash and never seen this before, it's like the first owner flicked it with their fingers with rings on or something - weird. Anyway the truck is darn near perfect otherwise, so I want to fix it. I know that whole outer trim piece comes off, but I don't see an obvious place to start pulling on it so thought I'd ask. Thanks!

LOL yeah me too - DVR caught the 2 absolute best episodes ever recently, where he's buyin the Saab from Putty and the Chicken Roaster one with the red neon hehe

Just pull on it carefully, start from the right side and disconnect whichever wires you need to as you go. A long flat head screwdriver helps. I always put the shifter in 1st (steering column) and tilt the wheel down as much as possible as it gets tight around the gauge cluster when removing. I'm not sure exactly what yours looks like but it can't be that much different. Anything built in the last 20 years or so has been all snap together anyway so... Try a Google search too as I'm sure it's been done. Oh, panel removal tools work pretty good when trying not to break clips etc.

Oh and there were zero wires attached to the whole piece so that was nice.
