Wellp. This post made me get off my @$$ and tend to this. Thanks @Tonyv__

So short story is I changed the starter and likewise, I knew on first start it was the problem. Cranks strong and crazy fast now.

Long version is that the CarQuest 52054S and 52055s that Advance lists as direct replacements did not fit. Nearly fit, but the bell housing over the pinion gear was slightly too wide. Noticed this after trying for 30 min to get it to fit then comparing the two side by side. So I took the new one back along with my old one, and only because my old one still had the Delco part number on it were they able to find the right replacement. Delco 12694626 fyi. And they had to order it.

Either way, problem solved!

Glad it helped. Weird like I may of said in other comments. I’ve never had a starter get weak on me. Always just stop working…

Sounds like it’s becoming common with this generation truck

I had a pair of Sears Platinum DieHards in my 2004 Ram Cummins that went 9 years. ( one was replaced free about 4 years in..)
Wanted to buy them again but they weren’t offered any longer. I believe they were actually re badged Odyssey batteries….
