I'm looking at a 2005 Z71 with a reconstructed title which honestly isn't a big deal. I did a carfax and it's saying that it used to be Grey and then i got wondering, i pass this body shop (It's right next to my local mechanic who i'm friends with and frequent often) and the color it used to be (grey) i remember them having a fully loaded LT that they were working on 6-8 months ago.

So basically i'm wondering if there is a way (Via the vin or something) that would tell me if this is a legit Z71. It has all the wheels, interior, exterior stuff that would make a Z71 (Although the one thing that stood out was the lack of Bilstein shocks since these looked to be the original shocks and damn near drove like they were. Here again i'm not sure that was the case with the Z71 tahoe's cause i know that was a selling point for my 02' Silverado Z when my father bought it new was the bright ass yellow shocks.

TL/DR: how do i double check to make sure I have a legit 05' Z71 tahoe.

I could be wrong but I think the codes in the glovebox would give the package breakdown, but I don't know where the decoding list is to tell. I have a 04 Z71 at home. Its definitely geared much lower than my 01 LT. I think my LT has 3.27's and the Z71 has 3.73's based on the rpm's at highway and the worse mileage lol

The glove box codes should tell. That's how my dad figured out the old truck he bought was a z71.

- Call GM with your VIN # and they will tell you everytrhing about your truck.

- Contact your nearest dealer and ask them to print out a Built Sheet of your VIN #.

If you want to run a build sheet yourself http://www.compnine.com/vid.php has worked well for me. It's $5 for 5 reports. If I had any left I'd run one for you but I used them up looking for a Tahoe to buy. http://www.rpocodes.com/ can help with translating the glove box codes.

This. Gloveboxes can be swapped out prety easily along with the RPO code sticker attached to them to give the appearance of a true Z71.

Yea, I was able to figure it out stuff was really weird on it. It looks like when it switched states the color that it was titled under threw me off on the carfax since it is supposed to be Pewter. But MS (bought from a dealership) registered it as a "Gray" and Florida registered as tan. it threw me off but i got it all figured out. it is a legit Z71 and everything fits on it.
