I installed the HT383E in my 99 hoe. It went pretty good but just be aware that these engines have "Piston Slap". Because of the short skirts on the pistons there is slight movement back and forth at BDC against the cylinder walls. We are talking in the thousands of an inch but it still makes noise until it warms up. Even then you can still hear it. Chevy is aware of the issue and says it's normal. I called up to get a case number anyway just to be on the safe side since it is under warranty.
Couple the piston slap with the clicking of the injectors from a new a spider injection kit and the noise is nerve racking. I have just under 3,000 miles and have yet to switch to synthetic. I would imagine it will quiet down a little.
The engine is good but will need a BB tune. Also be aware that your tranny will be a weak link. Mine blew during the days of break-in! POS 4L60E!
