I have a 2004 hoe, Recently installed two Kicker CVR 12's, being pushed by a 900w RMS Kenwood 9105 amp. I have purchased another 4 channel Kenwood amp to push all my door speakers, which have not been hooked up yet.

Thing is, even with just the 1 amp pushing the subs, I get bad headlight dimming. I have yet to do the big 3 which I plan on doing in the next few days.

Now what's my best option for upgrading beyond that? Should I get a second battery, Upgrade to a ** alternator, or maybe go for a dual alternator setup? I don't have the funds to do everything right now, but what should my first step be? I've heard caps are rather useless in eliminating the headlight dim..

Thanks in advance!

I am not a stereo guy, but I do know that if you plan on doing some major upgrades that draw that much power, I personally would invest in a dual alternator set up. Others with more experience with systems like that may have different advice, but anytime you put that much more electronics into the truck, having a second alternator should help you to avoid problems in the future.

To stop your lights dimming problem, you should upgrade your battery. I really don't think 900 RMS.. Is that much power. Do you have your AMP gain all the way up?
Reason I know this will work. I'm running 2 15 kickers L5s and a 1500d directed Amp. I believe that has more power a then your Kenwood. The cheapest route to go is upgrade your battery.. I'm using a Sears platinum battery those run about 200 buck. That should help you..and make sure your ground connections or clean.

I have a yellow Top Duralast battery that was about 110 I believe.. It seems to be a solid bat but there's always room for improvement. I might get a really strong aftermarket battery and have the yellowtop as my secondary. Question is, should I go upgraded batt. first or go for dual alternator setup first?

Let me ask you something . What level of Bass Head are you ?
Are you in your Hoe everyday ?
Do you WHAM your beats until the amp gets hot ?
Is your amp gain turned all the way up ?
Do you listen to low bass drops all the time?
Do you keep your radio volume above half ?
Answers them few question, so I can help you try to fine the best route to take and save $$$
PS. I didn't mean for it to sound like that lol...

If you do the Big 3 and get a good reputable ** alternator you will be just fine with only 900 Watts of power. Heck, the Big 3 may even fix your problem. But, if the Big 3 doesn't, then a ** alternator definitely will. With those two upgrades you should be just fine.

My suggestion would be to get an upgraded battery, 350 amp alternator, 0 gauge GND wire from the battery to the chassis, 0 gauge wire from the battery to the alternator, and 0 gauge from the alternator to the vehicle electrical system.

As far as the amp control knobs i would set the gain to half, the hertz to 80, and the bass boost about 3/4 of the whole way.

As far as the 4 channel amp, the gain to a slight position above half way, the hertz to 350 in high pass, bass boost to slightly less than half.

I would also leave the speakers at 4 ohms each so they can become 2 ohms at the amp. The kicker cvr's are dual voice coil @ 2 ohms each coil.

I think the Kenwood amp you are using is able to play at 1 ohm, but i still would leave everything at 2 ohms max just to be safe.

The big three and the yellow top should be more then enough! Big three in 0 gauge and if you really wanted to( but don't need to) a after market battery. Make sure the yellow top is charged. I run 1500 watts daily off a yellow top and big three( and that's not subs).

I know this thread is old but you do not need a 350 amp ** alternator for a 900 watt system.
