I need some logic!

I have a beautiful scratch& bug free ‘16 2wd Tahoe LT w/Lux pkg & nav,dvd, sunroof pkg. 24k miles. 8 months left on the 3/36. I owe 42k.
Today, I was offered a ‘15 Denali 6.2 4x4, hvy tow, dvd, power boards. Every single option. 2 local owners. 40k miles. Good carfax. No warranty. First year production. 48k$

Am I making a mistake going back to the first year of the new body?

I appreciate the input good/bad because car lots make rational people crazy.

Well, my rational answer is that I would hang on to your ride another year or 2 to soften your depreciation curve/total cost of ownership. It seems like these things really drop after year 1 and 2 relative to original MRSP and then flatten out a bit. You also still have lots of powertrain warranty as well.

I like a new car every 3-4 years or so. The only thing “wrong” with your car is that it’s not 4wd. That’s not wrong. I just like and need the option. I would ask the following of the trade, why 2 owners on a car with 40k miles. Personally if I did not need the 4wd I’d keep the devil I know vs the one I don’t. Carfax is only as reliable as the info put into it. I think going backwards is a mistake.

Unless there are features that you need or really want, I recommend that you keep what you have.

Your truck is a known quantity to you, the other is not, and three sales in as many years (you being the third if you buy it) could be a red flag for an underlying problem.

Too many red flags compared to your current ride:

-Technically unknown history
-Multiple owners in 40K miles
-No warranty
-Potential for first year problems
-Higher mileage
-Higher price

I second everyone's replies. Those extra bells and whistles won't mean crap to you if it has any of the first-year issues.

You say you owe 42k on yours but you don't mention what you can sell it for. Are you talking a 6k difference or is it more?

They came up to 42500 on my ‘16. That’s a pretty fair trade value. It would have been a trade difference of 7890.00. Then ad tax, title, the b/s dealer fees and it would’ve been 52,692.00 out the door.
I need the 4x4, but I just want the rear buckets, and the 6.2 liter, but cooler heads prevail. I’m not going back a model year and going up 100$ a month for some nice frills.

I agree lots of red flags..... “SHOW ME THE CARFAX!” Sorry I had to.... If it was an executive vehicle for a dealer or something then that many owners may be logical but otherwise that shouldn’t be. I’d stick with yours unless you can dig up the info and find out why there were three owners.

I appreciate all the input. I've seen very level headed people lose their minds on car lots. And it's kinda like Vegas- the house always wins.
