Replacing the gasket is a cheap fix, you can even save the coolant to make it even cheaper. Couple bucks for a gasket..but you gotta do it right

When you remove the pump, there will be a bunch of residue from the coolant and gasket on the block. Be sure to clean the outside of the engine block with something like brake cleaner and then use a small piece of sand paper to sand off the baked on garbage. You may have to do the same on the pump housing, years and years of heating/cooling can leave thick/hard gunk baked on. Clean again with brake cleaner, apply a thin layer of water pump gasket sealer to both sides of the gasket and reinstall everything.

That's basically it, just a little elbow grease

Yeah finding the leak is a *****. I looked like 6 or 7 times so far and didn't see any leaks until today. It must have been evaporating really fast because I looked right after I had driven it and the engine was hot. Yesterday when I looked, Ihad driven it about a mile or so, thats it. Then I looked all around and undeneath again and that when I saw some coolant near the water pump. Upon closer inspection I could see it dripping out of that weep hole.

yeah ive looked alot, just happen to notice it leaking from underneath that day. But looking at the pump and all that, i see nothing like you. But ive realized hot engine, and liquid falling on it, its going to disappear. But this is one thing i still dont understand. Its only happened twice, but i'll park and then underneath will be a puddle of coolant. But only twice has happened. Other wise like ive said, its just a slow leak. Maybe i'll get a chance this weekend to take a look.

thats the most common problem. Minded it will heal a leak, but when it start back to leak again, its just not worth it, when you discover its the pump. I tried the cheap route 5 times, and ended up replacing my waterpump 6 times, and If I just bought the new pump and swaped it with new gasket, I would have swap it once to begin with, and have no leaks.

Also these trucks are known to have cracked coolant resivors and faulty coolant level sensors.

And you dont absolutely need to remove the fan, but you can if you want too.

This is why im thinking of just replacing the whole thing. Might as well if im there anyway. Just need to make sure that is what the problem is. I dont see the tank leaking any where. Ive cleaned it and looked.

About how much are pumps for these? 5.3 if that matters. Havent looked into it yet. Also, did you guys get a gm one, or aftermarket. Usually i just get gm on stuff like this, but if its outrageous priced, i might be getting another one.

Thanks for that Boss. Im not sure if i will do it or not. I didnt realize for some reason, its the whole front of the engine. Well sort of. Like to do things myself, b/c i dont like to be dependent on others for something i can do and save money. Is there a diy anywhere?

thanks guys
