Can anyone tell me if I can convert a conventional steering to rack and pinion on my 01 Yukon?
I want to convert the conventional steering to rack and pinion on an 01 GMC Yukon. Help please!

Even if it COULD be converted to rack & pinion,
the geometry is such that the result would be a waste of effort, nevermind the costs.
Easiest way to convert? Buy a rack and pinion truck, like a GMT900.

You'll get far more bang for your buck buying steering reinforcement parts like ones made by
Kryptonite.

It would help to tell us why you are thinking about doing this. I don't know the answer or if it's even possible, but maybe someone here knows.
The early GMT800 2wd trucks have rack and pinion, 4x4 got gearbox. I'm pretty sure it's related to coil spring vs torsion bars suspension differences. I once read here someone said they have seen a 4x4 with rack and pinion, which I didn't know they even made. I can't recall who it was or what the thread was about...
Edit: I thought about it more and I don't think it's possible to do a direct swap. My 99 Silverado with the steering rack has a different front crossmember (it's super wide and has 2 holes where the rack and pinion bolts through.) Your truck doesn't have this type of crossmember...

Is it possible that an owner LATER converted a RWD with R&P, to AWD or 4WD?

The short answer is you can do anything with enough time and money. There are no bolt in options, but an experienced automotive fabricator could certainly complete the conversion.

I must see vids of the Wiley E. Tahoe with rack and pinion turning on a dime at 50mph with weak shocks and worn out control arm bushings. The chaos that will ensue!
