Identifying 6 speed vs 8 speed trans in 2015 Denali

Hi, peeps. Been searching on here and the Google and I'm prob just not using the right terms, so if this has been covered, please let me know.

What is the easy identifier of the start of the 8 speed in 2015 model? The manufacture date before which I should not look, or the VIN code, perhaps. I've seen MYC and M5U floating around. Are those the VIN codes for the 6 and 8, respectively?

I am looking for a 16 but may go low-mileage 8 speed 15 if the deal is sweet. Just need to know the definite answer to easily identify so I'm not driving all over the state to look at 6 speeds. In my gut I feel like half the 15s online have wrong trans listed because of either neglect or intent.

You'll want all of that information in your head as you begin to look as not all ads will have all the information needed to reveal what the truck is equipped with.

Not sure how a VIN will reveal a transmission, but the RPO and date provided when looking at door tags are good to know.

My daddy also taught me to stay away from first year models and generally speaking he was right. Learn their faults and watch out for them.
