Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post this. I noticed when I turn key slightly forward that it turns on power in the tahoe but when I turn it backward its as if the power is on but no lights? Is this a safe position to leave it in when camping in this rig?
Will leaving the key backward so i can open windows still, will it kill the battery?
Cant afford that in 0° weather / mountains..
Thanks

It would end up draining the battery over time depending what you are running off of it at that time and for how long. Especially in that really cold weather. What would you use it for in camping? Just curious.

So I've been camping out longer term than norm is my SUV while I seek employment & housing (have steady income already for living) but at night- I'm not running anything off of it whatsoever, just want to know if key turned back alone will drain power (as long as nothing at all is running)
I'd use the key turned back to roll up & down windows while not having to get all the way up to go turn key

It will be normal if you don't use anything that might need the battery but as you might noticed that the radio and the watch will stay on even if you used the switch backwards
My advice to you my friend is that you turn off the car and when you need to power down the windows you switch it on
This will better then to buy new battery

any system including the radio wired into the accessory circuit (key fully back) will leave the battery open to drainage. turning the key forward from lock to off still applies power to the transmission system so it will drain the best option is remove the key.

the wiper system is on that same circuit and any washer that has the pulse function on it also has constant power on its control module regardless of wiper switch. i am sure it is a minuscule drain if any but to be sure you would want to do a drain test with a multi-meter to be sure. easiest way to test is to, and be prepared, it to just leave the key back and see if it drains the battery the next morning. what did do that make you thought the power was on but no light when the key is back short of window power or was that it? or did you mean you saw it when key is is the lock position?aqny reason you can't leave the key in locked position when not being used? if the wiper system with pulse function was not there and no radio stuff or other accessory stuff is installed then the window activity is the only thing that could drain it with key back.
