you don't say what you want it to do. do you want navigation, or even a screen? do you wanna integrate your smart phone? do you need satellte radio, DVD or even CD player? do you want backup cam or extra monitors?

i always like Alpine but haven't tried any of the current models. buddy just put a Kenwood-Excelon-DNN992 ($1399) in his Tahoe and IMO it sucks. Super sssssssS L O W... and it doesn't work fully with his Android phone model. it won't act as the screen for his phone because his phone isn't supported haha. I'm waiting until there's more CarPlay options, the current Alpine iLX-007 has been out awhile. I know iOS 8.3 that came out yesterday makes it where you don't have to even plug in your phone anymore. The Pioneer my co-worker has sucks with smart phones too, the 3rd party app thing is buggy...

Like the above said. Depends on how much money you want to spend and what you want it to do. I spent $265 for a new Pioneer off Ebay that did all I wanted it to do and more. Bluetooth for my phone, for phone calls and puts all controls for phone and contacts on radio, Bluetooth for my Ipod touch for music, another cable hooked up to my Ipod classic that stays in the glove box with over 1200 songs and 30 full length movies on it. SiriusXm radio receiver hooked into it with a lifetime subscription and even does Pandora radio. I added a 10" sub I can remove in the rear off an Alpine amp I installed in the left rear quarter trim panel. I've seen recievers over $1000, but for what I wanted, mine is great.

Did you have iPhone connected? If so, how was the App thing? coworker has a lower model and the apps are super buggy on it. i guess this unit actually has CarPlay though anyway, so that'd be better than the 3rd party pioneer app thing?

Im running a avic z120bt, it ROCKS! I have absolutely no complaints.
OS s fast and responsive, the menu's are intellegently thought out.
No problems both BT and wired with my iphone.

Had this one too. Loved it. The avic8000 is similar but the CarPlay is what makes it.

Yep used my iPhone 6 on it. The Apple CarPlay standard is awesome. I miss having it. You're thinking of AppRadio which sucks. Only the AVIC-NEX series has Apple CarPlay which is totally different. It has a lot more Apple integration versus the app radio which just has a handful of poorly executed apps. The avic-nex is also a multi touch capacitive screen.

Since you asked for opinions, here's mine. I hate pioneer stereos. Never ever have I had good results with one. I've liked alpine for a long time, work great with apple stuff and the adjustments and setting are easy to use and navigate. I'm not saying pioneer is bad just that I'll never buy one ever again. My 2 cents and my opinion is get Alpine

That is really surprising to hear. I've had at least 6 pioneer screens and they all rocked.
