Increasing Rear travel

Anyone have any idea what stock rear travel is and how much you can increase it by with a longer spring / shock or what other work it would take. I haven't measured my rear travel yet however since I increased the front to over 9 inches I am hoping to do the same in the back end now...

I have never really looked into it but I would imagine you may be limited by the rear control arms, so something there may have to be modified.
the solid axle needs to able to pivot more so the body may need to go up, different springs, longer shocks.
you might have to poke around and see what some of the crawlers utilize

You talking bump or droop? To give you some half-decent numbers: Mine's lowered 4" in the back and the top of the axle side panhard mount is about 2" from hitting the crossmember. So, we'll call that 6" of bump from a stock height Tahoe. I originally had my drop shocks set up to maintain all factory range of motion even at the lowered height, and they had about 4" of droop. So, I'd estimate that the factory setup can swing about 10" straight up and down from bottoming against the frame to hanging by the shocks at full extension. Unbolting the stock shocks lets the axle drop down another 4" or so. I've never actually measured it, just recently had it all together and apart multiple times when swapping various coils and shocks. I never lifted the frame/body more than what the brake lines would comfortably allow as that was enough to pry the stock coils out. So, I'd estimate about 14" of total available travel before the stock coils fall out. You can get longer, more flexy springs and shocks with more travel, but the axle would be swinging a good bit forward and I don't know wht it'd do to the pinion angle. If you want more linear travel, you're gonna have to get longer arms and make custom frame mounts more towards the front. Your arms would need spherical joints as well.

I was looking at extra travel for offroading and so far it seems going with Fox or kings Coilovers and shocks will increase travel then go with Spohn Delsphere pivot points Off-Road" Rear Suspension Package and pair it with dobinsons rear springs, and for even hardcore travel remove sway bars.

I am running Kings up front now and they work great I highly recommend them. I was looking at doing those in back too. Something like the Spohn off road kit looks like just what I need.

I removed swaybars on the front and rear last year. It does help a little. It started to get a little too loose because my ball joints control arms were getting worn so I reinstalled them. But with the front end tightened up again I am planning to remove them again. I think the best thing might be a lighter bar with a quick disconnect on them.

What all have you done with yours so far for off road.

What Kings did you go with? I’m going to get coilovers from them when I delete my z55. I don’t wanna go above a 3” lift- I’ve got a 2” leveling kit right now so one more inch in the front is all I wanna do, but I do want better ride offroad and I think kings will get me that. I was looking at Filthymotorsports site and $1700/1800 for a set of coils is cheaper than paying the mechanic to install new autoride struts up front at $2500. Try at said I know you can get z55 struts cheaper online but wheres the fun in that.

Back road trails at high speed (75mph) feel great, highway and around town is much better than stock. I had a set of Rancho 7000 on there and these are much better. On trails filled with 6 inch or bigger boulders I tend to just speed up and let the shocks work.

Depending on what Kings you go with you may not need the level kit to get your 3 inches of lift. I would check into Baja Kits too.

Hell yeah. I would for sure remove the leveling kit and do it all thru coilovers. Thanks for the info! I may give them of filthy motorsports a call and see what they have to say. I don’t wanna loose any highway driveability but it would be very nice to be able to roll with the punches on a trail like that. Id want to put z71 springs on the rear and run king shocks back there as well.
