Rear brakes on my 04 Yukon went bad, real fast. Quick inspection last night found the inside pad on the passenger side was down to metal. The outside pad is about half gone.

I went to the part store today and planned on asking about new pins but before I could ask the counter guy tells me to look out for the inside pads wearing out quick on those. He explains that it's a design defect that doesn't allow the pads to retract properly, thus causing them to drag on the disc more than they should.

He advised that I either grind off the outermost tabs by no more than a 16th of an inch or do the equivalent to the bracket. He said a buddy of his at a GM dealer told him about it and that its a design flaw.

I'm thinking there's no hurt in trying. It's not taking much off, but I wanted to raise it here on the forum and see what you have to say.

Thoughts?

Same exact problem on my drivers side.

3 brake jobs in one year. The last one was free.. I was eating up both pads like crazy.. It was a faulty caliper that had to be replaced.. Wearing nice and smooth since.

Also.. MAKE SURE that you or whoever does your brakes puts LOTS of that anti seize material.. such a simple .03 step that they ALL forget. Your pads will stay locked on the rotor without good lube.

The sliders pins stuck on the rear calipers on my 01 tahoe. The brakes locked up and almost started smoking. I had to use a torch to get them out. Once lubed they work fine now.
