My last door handle broke after always opening to the extreme end. After replacing the handle, same problem. I then thought bending the opening rod would help shorten the throw but still not enough. Anyone else with the same problem? Is there a fix besides making more extreme bends in the rod?

assuming all parts are body mounted tight your latch assembly may have very excessive wear which even bent rods cant help. the rods should not have been bent to begin with but do check their end clips for damage which contributes to excessive travel and disconnection.

The replacement handle is getting worse to where it's better to open window to open from outside. Door hinges are tight. What is the solution when everything else looks tight and in place?

Does your door "rattle" when closed going down the road? The problem may likely be with the door latch assembly in the door where it meets strike bar and not in the handle or rod, with wear it is loose and requires the interior handle and connecting rod to travel further distance to open door. Part is about $115 at gm parts direct as I recall.

Maybe. I tried to remove the door latch to give it a good cleaning but just couldn't undo the rod from outer door handle. Last fix I did I drilled holes and ran a bolt through and used jb weld over everything. Then rebent the rod like crazy. Lasted 2 weeks. It's at a point, the door panel is only held on by 2 clips. Thinking of just attaching a small rope to the rod to pull it open. I'm beyond frustrated.

i just replaced my door handle yesterday and it was a pain. What made everything worse is that my exterior door handle also did not work so i had little space to work with while trying to remove the door panel because the door wouldn't open. Eventually i got the door open. i ended up wiring a coat hanger through the last whole on the door latch lever to my new door handle and it works perfectly. Will put original wire back eventually.
