So I just got a steering wheel with controls for $60 shipped off of eBay and the corresponding clockspring for $150 from another forum classified. Not too bad if you ask me. I plan on installing the parts this week but wanted to ask for any pointers from any one who has done this. Also I heard some people don't get the instant mpg with the upgrade and some do. Any reason why?? Lastly, does anyone in Dallas area know of a GM house that can do the reprogramming I will need?
I plan on doing a nice write up with pictures in this thread.

Disconnect the battery and wait 15 mins before you attempt to release the air bag so the capacitor is drained. You can use two small allen wrenches simultaneously in through the holes on the sides of the air bag to release it. After the bag is off, I didn't have to use a wheel/gear puller to get my wheel off. I just grabbed it and yanked and it popped right off the spline shaft. Unless your BCM was programmed from the factory for the controls, you will probably have to take it to the dealer and get both the cluster and the BCM programmed for EVERYTHING to work. However, once you get the clock spring and new wheel on you should have some basic info display that wasn't there before so you know you got it hooked up right. As far as getting it hooked up right, you really can't screw it up because even though there's like 14 plugs, as far as I remember they are all different.
