Mine only says zero when I'm not moving, otherwise it is reading different mpg all the time based on throttle position, and engine load. I'm guessing if you still had AFM it would also toggle between V8 and V4.

I have to see what that does on my next road trip, and ... what is AFM?

Ah, that, I heard "these Vortex engines" have that, is that something that just works by default, or does it need to be activated?

I would guess they may have tuned it out with ppv/ssv tune(do they tune those diff from civilians) but i would guess that the engine internals are still there. Leave the dic on that setting an go for a ride and eyeball the info, especially on a down hill that you take your foot off the gas and see if the v8 goes to v4.

I'll try that. I do know they 'tune' them differently. In the 'specs' I read that there is a "federal emissions exempt" for a lot of those vehicles, resulting in 10% more HP and 10% less fuel usage.

RPOs:
NC7: EMISSION SYSTEM,FEDERAL OVERRIDE

There are a few more emission RPOs

All the NC7 code does is basically default the emission system configuration to the more stringent system, like what is installed in Ca, NJ, Maine, etc. So if your vehicle has the California emissions RPO code, YF5, it is exempt from the federal emissions, since it is Ca. compliant, which is more restrictive. Merely a 'book keeping' thing:

http://www.gmfleet.com/content/dam/gmfleet/global/master/nscwebsite/en/Home/Resources/01_images/2015-model-emissions-bulletin.pdf

While the tune may be different between the federal and Ca., etc., tunes, ALL of them, from GM, will still have AFM activated. Most Departments will keep this tune, since a retune by the Department motor pool will void warranties, especially if the AFM lifters fail, and the AFM has been disabled. That's an expensive fix that NO Department wants to pay for.

If AFM is disabled on your truck, either the Department did it after the truck ran out of warranty (unlikely, as that's just extra hours spent working on a vehicle that's really not necessary, especially since that vehicle may soon be retired), or, more likely, there was some party that took possession of this truck after the Department was done with it and tuned the AFM out.

After installing the dic, I've been able to improve my MPG quite a bit by being more conscious, because I'm able to monitor my average MPG now. I don't always need to be in a hurry to get someplace early, which I usually am anyway!

I think my wife sees that number and tries to get it as low as possible. I mean, low score wins, right?!? o_O

When I get behind the wheel, even when driving to the store, I usually put it back in the garage a few tenths higher. I'll turn to her and say 'your MPG is now 15.6. Your welcome.' :D
