I installed the new fuel pump, I can hear it run when I turn the key, but it doesn't hold the pressure, once the pump shuts off the pressure drops.
But two different times when I was cranking it and stopped ,it did hold pressure, cranked it a couple more times and then pressure dropped off when I stopped cranking.
So far I don't see anything leaking.
Pressure is at about 62, PSI , while cranking.
Poured gas in the throttle body and it started right up.
I don't know if it matters, but I only put about 4 1/2 gallons of gas in the tank.
When the key is on I hear clicking somewhere by the metering assembly.
Could the fuel pressure regulator be causing this problem ???
Even if it doesn't hold pressure shouldn't it start as long as there's pressure while cranking???

Edit : I got one code, P0452, Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/ Switch Low Input

unknown at this time.
pressure should hold a good long while after priming if not running. something has to be be leaking weather it is a stuck upon injector or leaking or defective regulator. worry about that first.

Thank you I appreciate the help very much !!
Am I correct that, in order to find out if I have a stuck upon injector or leaking or defective regulator, I need to remove the upper intake ??

The regulator could be bad on the spider. In that case, you have to change the whole unit which is located under the upper manifold. I would see if you can get it to start when the pressure does hold. I'm thinking it should run anyway unless it's flooding out the engine.

Beware if it is flooding. I had this happen on a no start issue. The gas ran down the cylinder walls and thinned out the oil. If this happens you will hear the engine crank unusually fast. Also tthe plugs will be wet. DO NOT START THE ENGINE. It's like having no oil pressure and you'll ruin the motor.

I was thinking it should run anyway , if it was flooding I wouldn't think it would run when I poured gas in the throttle body.
I will pull dip stick and check n smell

When U say(In that case, you have to change the whole unit ) do U mean the whole spider assembly, cuz in the FSM it looks like U can change just the Fuel pressure regulator. IDK
Dang ,I thought I was home free when I got a working fuel pump

Gotta go get some flare nut wrenches cuz line fittings just starting to round at fuel filter, not changed yet

yeah it can be changed by itself. but for a reg that is $80 locally you get get the entirely new designed spider with reg and everything you need for $250 at amazon.

1: Is removing the upper plenum the next step I should take ?

2: What is the most likely problem ?

3: I don't know exactly how this whole system works, but I am learning.
If something is leaking , does that mean the fuel is not getting to the injectors ?

4: I have some ideas but, Why would something in there start leaking from the truck setting for a long time.

Again, thanks for any and all input.

This is a funny story because a similar thing happened to me and was a minor fix which helped me save lots of $Dough$. Let me remind you that this happened to me on a 01 Hoe.

I would hear the pump come on but the hoe just wouldn't start. The Hoe would crank over but wouldn't start. Several codes came up (cant remember which ones, sorry) and just wouldn't start. I initially thought it was the pump and was about to return it when I decided to check the voltage on the pump. Come to find out I had a semi dead battery which wasn't sending enough juice to the pump and other electronics. I hooked up a battery charger and VUALA, immediate start.

Just my $.02. you never know what it might be. :challenge:
