Hey everyone. Just got the motor installed. It was a *****. FYI try and move the transmission and transfer case back as if you were doing a car. I tried to avoid it and it took a while to get those dowels lined up.

I also installed the VMAX manifold spacer and a Ported Throttle Body from CFMtech.com. I will go into detail on another thread but for now I need some tips on what is going on with the truck.

I don't think the computer is able to adjust to the mods. In particular is the idling. In the morning I have to get on the gas a little in order for the truck to idle. Then at a light it will surge to around 1100. At another light the idle will fluctuate almost into a stall. Driving seems ok but shifting and passing gears are erratic.

Maybe the throttle body mod is affecting the idle air control valve? Not sure here. I definitely need to get a data logging tune from black bear but I need to clear up these issues first.

Any help is appreciated.

I put the same motor in 3 years ago, had no problems to be honest....HOWEVER an inperson tune on a dyno really brought it to life, I meanbig time. The computer will adjust but with the tune you get a real idea what is going on with the fuel / air mixture. We are just about maxed on the fuel through put on the stock fuel system. The spacer might be screwing you up.

Edit: get in touch with Black Bear (Justin and Jenna) I know they do many tunes for guys here....trust them. Where are you located?

The cam is ground on a tighter LSA (109 vs stock 111), plus the VMAX spacer allows it to breathe a bit better so the computer may have some problems adjusting for the difference.
Mailorder tune will be fine if the tuner has tuned this engine in person before or can get some datalog info from you.

Its an increase in cubes did you adjust the TB open a little bit more to compinsate for the increase in air it needs to take in? sounds exactly like what my stroker did in my 97 camaro. Tune will really help but to get it to stop surging at the lights you have to open the blades a bit and check the TPS with a volt meter. It seems like nothing but that tps will affect idel big time. Voltage may be the same as the lt1's but I am not sure but I had to notch my TPS so I could adjust it and set the idle screew and then adjust the tps voltage to get the idle to calm down.

ABSOLUTELY pull the spacer. It messes up your throttle positioning sensor. I put one on when my trans was out. When i put it all back together, it wouldnt idle. So i pulled it off and what do you know... problem solved. Remember, on the vortec motor, a spacer is only affecting airflow, which really isnt doing anything because the fuel is mixed after the spacer.
