I'm a member here, but I'm posting this post on behalf of my grandfather. He has a 2001 Yukon XL that has an instrument cluster that is displaying false messages. It's saying that his ABS is problematic and that his brakes are in need of fixing...this is every time he puts the key in and cranks it...it's one of the messages at the top of the cluster where the hi-beams and turn signals are located. He's gotten to the point where he just put duck tape over the light and ignores it. There is no issue with them at all and he's taken it to get it serviced and they said there is nothing wrong...we just want to know what could be causing this so we can eliminate this issue. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! -YukonBrosef12

If the abs light is on then there should be a code stored in the system that a scan tool should be able to show. Usually the lights for messages like that don't just randomly turn on from the dash.

If you don' t have a code reader, you can get a free reading at autozone or similar type part store. You may have a bad ABS sensor or something similar.

I have a bad ABS sensor on mine, and it was causing the antilock brakes to kick on when I pushed the brake pedal (pulled the fuse for a temp fix). This isn't happening to him is it?
