Hmmm...


Lower intake is installed, new bolts tightened to specs. But I'm having some issues getting this new distributor installed. Any suggestions on how to turn the oil pump? I could get it seated all the way, but I'm not sure it was aligned properly. Best way to to tell if the housing is aligned correctly?

Use a long flathead screwdriver to rotate the pump shaft. If you lay down on top of it with a light, you can just see it.

If you marked the distributor base and also where the rotor pointed relative to the distributor housing before it was removed, turn the rotor about 45-degrees counterclockwise from that mark. Also align base shaft with your mark on the intake. As it seats, the rotor will rotate to your original mark.

I'll try to look down into it with a light. I need to buy a longer screwdriver, none of mine are long enough.

However, it's a new distributor and any marks I had on it were removed when it was soda blasted.

If you have the old distributor and its marks, copy them to your new one. From there, even with no mark on the intake, I'd try to seat it such that the distributor cap hold down screw closest to the driver side is just hitting the intake...maybe 1/16" or something like that.

Edit: if you don't have the old distributor to transfer the rotor position marks, you'll need to rotate #1 cylinder to TDC and go from there. Here's a link...

I did the same job on my 98 last year, but the part doesn't look familiar.

It reminds me of the timing marker pointer thing, but I may be thinking of a Ford.

Probably a tab to hold a wire clamp or something. From all the crud on it, it was probably close to the back of the intake around the valve covers or oil pressure sending unit.

I know the bracket is attached to the steering pump somewhere. I just stuck it on the bottom[emoji23]

So close!

Here's that bracket on the PS pump on my 98. Sounds like you found the right spot for it.

As for that gasket on the resonator, it may be time for a junk yard run.
