Lube up the latch and adjust if needed. Old cable with frozen inside the conduit.

maybe the latch is fubar, have you been in a accident? does it look bent anywhere? it should latch easily.Spring on latch has strong tension. Just too tight to push down all the way into fully latched position
Yeah I was going to just the change plastic part, but seems like the plastic piece isn’t sold by itselfgoing to be a lot easier to just have someone hold the hood latch open and just change the handle inside, holding the latch open allows you to disconnect the cable easily.
for as little as it comes up on here it's not very common but can happen, I think I have seen a handful of post's since 2017How often do these handles fail? Would it be worthwhile to keep one on hand during road trips? I suppose if it came to it, a Vise-Grip levering against something else would work.
