Hey all, I'm relatively new to the forum, have lurked but never posted anything.

I have an extremely annoying problem that has recently resurfaced. As the title suggests the interior lights on my 99 Tahoe will randomly flicker after applying the brakes and often continue to do so for several seconds. I am not electrically inclined at all so I was hoping someone here has dealt with a similar issue in the past.

The truck functions fine mechanically, however, if I shut it off during the random flickering I lose auxiliary power (windows, power seat, door locks will not work). I've searched online and found people with similar issues, but none were sure their solutions fixed the problem 100%. One of those fixers involved replacing the windshield wiper control module which seemed like a stretch to me.

If anyone can offer any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

I should also add that this problem occurs with the dome override button depressed, which had previously been my workaround.

Do you have the lift glass? If you do make sure your tailgate is closed good, because that happened to me before so that might be it. Maybe one of the buttons that shuts the lights off when you close the door is going out too

Thanks for the reply, the issue seemed distinctly worse driving home tonight.

No liftglass, have barn doors. There is a definite clicking sound coming from underneath the dash near the fuse box, sounds like a relay but I really have no idea where to go from there.

If I shut the truck down without letting it get past the 'flickering' the interior lights activate when pressing the lock/unlock button and will stay on as long as I hold the button.

Does this indicate a short?

Sounds like a short, and I know the clicking sound you are talking about cause that's what mine did when they would flicker.. Might check the back side of the fuse box, and look for any loose looking connections. I'd start with looking around the pwr lock fuse.

John,

I am wondering if you solved the flickering lights issue. I get the same thing from time to time.

Oddly enough, the problem stopped a couple days after I posted. I would have liked to find out what was causing it but didn't have time before it went away on its own.

Now the running lights won't operate, however the headlights work with the lights on. This is a more recent problem but nothing major, just annoying to know there are electrical "gremlins" causing weird stuff.
