I've always seen people use kitty hair. I've never done auto but all the work I do on aircraft is fabric and its easy enough because you cut whatever shape and once you wet it it takes the shape

Use fleece (joggin pants). Get it in rolls at your local fabric store for cheap. Use fiberglass resin and soak it good as it lays over the object. You can also stretch it over the object. Once it hardens you sand it faily smooth and add filler (bondo) or glaze to fill any dips etc.. then prime and paint. Ive made motorcycle fenders and all kinds of stuff. Neat looking curve speaker box enclosures are made with fleece.

First post...I am not sure if this is will help. We make different molds of broken plastic parts a lot. What we do is... tape the broken parts together... spray a type of wax on the part we want to make a mold out of... Then spray a thick layer of bed liner on the part... give it a bit to start to firm... don't wait till it is rock hard... peel the bed liner off the plastic pieces... then wax the bed liner mold to fiberglass... it takes practice and is not easy at first but it works great for us when we cant get a part.
