Intermittent power driver’s seat

Hi all, I’m having a problem with our 2007… Actually this problem has been there as long as I’ve owned it, but it comes and goes. Sometimes when my wife gets into it and tries to move the seat forward, it won’t function. There is no relay click and no motor response. If she waits a few minutes or drives a little while, suddenly it will work. All of the threads I’ve found have been problems with the gears, but I’m thinking it could be the switch in the seat. Thoughts?

Check wiring harness might be chewed up. Also fuses? Just places to start.

My wiring harness was chewed up and causing intermittent issues like that. I had to take the seat apart and fix the damaged wires. Took a few hours and wasn't too hard.

Thank you both. Where were your wires located that were chewed up, Dave? Was it rodent damage or...?

For my particular issue, it was the recline motor that was having issues. In that case, it was a few inches from the motor where the harness had rubbed through and was shorting on the metal frame which is... not good. Got it fixed up and it's been working great ever since. Yours sounds a little different. If you don't hear the relay clicking in the control box, I'd think your problem is either in the switch itself or the wiring between the switch and control box. That's where I'd start.

Yes. Mine would stick in the forward position my wife uses. The switch would move the seat from time to time. I took off the sill plate and did have some questionable looking wires. You might look in that area wiggling the wires while trying to move the seat.

Okay. Were your symptoms similar to mine?

Also after you check fuses and wires. Then see if your actually getting power at the switch and motor. (I know pita but if the test light doesn't come on you know you got a problem)

To add on to the other good suggestions, does the memory function cause the seat to move when the normal adjustment switch does not? That should more or less rule out an issue with the control box. If niether switch causes the relays to click then it sounds more like a bad control box to me as long as the other seat motors work besides just forward and backward. If none of the seat motors work, then it might be a power issue.
