I was sitting at an intersection waiting to turn right (south, turning west) onto a 4 lane street. there was a westbound SUV waiting for eastbound traffic to clear to turn south. At the same time, there was an eastbound Jeep Patriot approaching that was going to turn left (north), he tried to cut across oncoming westbound traffic to turn on to the street I was sitting on. Because of the south-turning SUV, he didn't see a white Mercury Mountaineer coming westbound. Mountaineer T-***** the Patriot and pushed the whole mess into my front end.

Here's my question. I live in Michigan, which is a "No At Fault" state. I carry a $1000 broad form collision deductible on my insurance. I've been told I'll be paying my deductible to get it fixed (which I won't, I can get the parts cheap), but I've also been told I won't be paying my deductible to get it fixed. What's the story? I'll be contacting insurance in the morning regardless.

Damage - Bumper, Grille, corner lights.

ironically, i've found my z71 bumper and was going to order it next week.

I'm not sure on the insurance part, but you can fix it cheaper than payin that 1000 dollar deductible..check out ebay, amazon, or maybe a local car show..but if insurance pays for it, then getta smoothie bumper, billet insert, & clear corners

didnt understand all the westbound east bound north bound stuff, but looks like a big accident and glad to see your alright.

Also, dont just look at the outside damage, you will have to take stuff off to see whats all behind it. bumper brackets, frame, towhooks, looks like your fenders messed up???

not sure on the insurance either.

but you should be able to fix it all for less than a grand if you don't have to get the frame straightened or anything painted.

That does look like a big ole three car mess.

I don't know the specifics about Michigan, but up here we have no fault insurance as well.

If you were in any way responsible the for the accident, then you'd have to pay your deductable.
BUT if you are found to be 0% responsible then you don't pay anything for the deductable.

Of coarse, responsibility is rated from 0% to 100% with every shade of grey inbetween. So much so that it's really hard(but doable) to get at 0%, because the insurance companies hate paying out, and they REALLY hate eating the deductable.

That responsibility rating is so important that even if I was drunk, speeding, hitting every car on the road. When I got caught, I would DENY, DENY, DENY. Never admit liability in an accident.

In your particicular case, to help you get to 0%. I would tell anyone who will listen to you that your truck was completely stopped, your wheels were not moving. If your wheels were not moving, then your a parked vehicle, then you can't be held responsible for anything other drivers were doing, thus acheiving 0%. If you tell someone that you were creepin up on the red light, then youve lost that 0% and may have to pay the deductable. That's how ornery the system is.

+1 on looking for hidden damage.

Good Luck!

Who are you insured with, State Farm or AAA or ? You should not have to pay the deductible since you were struck and not moving. That's not considered "parked" but it is "stopped" and for this accident, that's what matters.

Now, were you in any way injured? Jostled around enough that you might need to see a chirpractor, etc? Discuss that with your insurance agent as well. You always have the option of taking the at-fault party to court for a mini-tort to recover up to $400.....in case you don't have towing or car rental, etc, and had to pay for some of this stuff out of pocket.

Make sure your agent works for you, that's why they get the nice commission checks for doing paperwork.

Just got off the phone with my agent (my cousin) and I don't have to pay anything. He took my claim and told me to go get an estimate. VERY EXCITED RIGHT NOW!

man that sucks. My feeling is that you can get that fixed cheaper than the $1k deductible without too much effort. Scour CL and eBay and you can get the parts pretty cheap man! plus if you go through insurance all it's going to do is raise your rates.

Man, I don't know wtf "no fault" insurance is. Since that dude f'ed up....his insurance should be paying to fix your truck. Go to several shops, get the most expensive estimate and have your agent send that to the dude's insurance company. Make sure they know you own the vehicle outright, and to make the check payable to YOU...not the BODY SHOP...and then you can take all that money and get the limited z71 bumper and billet grille and all that.
