I'm not trying to be mean but that's what I meant by doing it properly. That looks horrible. And you have way more than $60 in to it. You purchased an aftermarket radio and iPad that you're not including. Neil currently has a stock stereo.
DUHHH obviously. It cost me $60 meaning a ipad case, bondo, resin. In the end it was like $500. Including ipad and headunit. btw I would love to see your attempt. Sorry I havent been doing this shit for long so I might be rusty

Technically you could get away without a regular headunit....if you go ipad > sound processor> amp...then you don't need the headunit...

yes, but you're still looking at a couple hundred for a good sound processor. You also won't keep steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, OnStar, etc. putting a single din radio in there and using the AUX will allow you to keep all this. just using a sound processor won't.

I'm actually in the middle of doing mine, so I've done a lot of research.

yes you could. This is temp for me (got alpine 9887 for $100). I am saving up for a 3sixty.3 and hook it up via bluetooth or optical.

I agree but mine I didn't spend much on. Waiting to purchase rf 3sixty.3. I could care less about onstar, steering wheel but if you wanna keep all that, a headunit will be needed. In the end if done properly with nice gear, motorization, $1000 easy.

this is what you could use and some people have used...

HRT iStreamer Outboard DAC for iDevices

but I'd still recommend putting that in to a radio.

I'll wait for Nathan to do it and see how it's done. I saw one of these installed on an escalade, it is majestic.

The hrt i streamer works well. You could also use the Pure i20 which will give you digital out and charge, and go into a sound processor.
