IPod (iPhone) connection

I have my iPhone connected to my stereo using the USB port. If I select a podcast through my phone it plays with no issues. If I try to select a podcast though my stereo buttons/dials it says, "iPod not authenticated, check iPod version." It then disconnects my iPhone.

Also when a podcast is done playing my stereo will switch to songs and not play the next podcast.

As anyone else had an issue like this or know of a solution?
