Is it common for the rear heat to go out?

Yeah. huge topic. Most likely your rear controller (computer) is bad. I did a post on this, but there are many, MANY others... I replaced mine a while back. Most people seem to get caught up on replacing the blend motors (servos), but I don't see how these can really fail. they are just little motors with a few electronics and there is not much there to fail. My post had details on reprogramming which is the hardest part. Good luck.

Most likely the servo motor has failed and can't function. The motors them selves don't tend to fail it's the plastic gears that the put in side break and spin and go know where which in return means it doesn't function
