I was looking under my truck today and noticed something. The area that the cv connects back into the center of the truck, one of these "brackets" (not sure what to call it) was oily and the one on the other side was dry as a bone. Is this thing supposed to be oily or do i have a problem?IMG_20171025_143847519_preview.jpg IMG_20171025_143847519_preview.jpg IMG_20171025_143837747_preview.jpg IMG_20171025_143447253_preview.jpg IMG_20171025_143437718_preview.jpg

The seal is leaking. Not supposed to be oily. If you dont take care of tge seal eventually...... long time..... alll the fluid from front diff will drip out and youll burn it up. Yoy have time tho

Btw, those are your front axles and they go into your front differential..... think axle and pumpkin like in the rear but smaller, independent of each other and so your 4wd works.

What iamdub said and Galante said. You will need to pull apart enough to allow the inner cv flange to unbolt at the output flange and then remove the output flange and replace seal. Do not, I repeat, do not install new seal without the correct install tool.

So what's the name of the seal that's leaking? Is it expensive to fix?

Some labor to do and how much or hard depends on your abilities will make the difference. The seal is called transaxle output seal. Not very expensive. Just tell the parts guy the seal where the inner cv axle plugs in. Very common. Get the correct fluid and refill. Test drive and recheck. Do not attempt if no tools or ability.

Thanks I'll check into it. I knew something was wrong when it was greasy and the other side wasn't!

Luckily it is not pouring out so you likely have a "little" time to get your ducks in a row.

I can bet you there are lots of threads here about that exact same problem. It is very very common.
